When we left Los Angeles and moved to the country in North Carolina, we were not sure what to expect. Of course there was the natural "culture shock", but we were greeted by an unusual pair of neighbors. Dogs! Yes, dogs can run freely out in the country. We did not have a dog at the time and it was a welcomed surprise. We are great animal lovers and were so happy to have our new friends Taffy and Blackjack. We met other dogs in the neighborhood that were very sweet but they didn't hang around as much. We finally met the owners of our canine friends and they were very nice. The problem was that they lived across a dangerous, busy road, so they had to travel back and forth to visit us. We were extremely worried by this and were so afraid that they would be hit by a car.
Well, the dogs visited us everyday and we took them on walks and played with them in the yard for a couple of years. We became very attached and our concerns for their safety grew. The dogs did not visit for a few days and we just knew something was wrong. We tried to make ourselves believe that maybe they went on vacation but we had to call the owners to find out. Our worst fear had become a reality...Blackjack was hit by a car. We were crushed. What would Taffy do without her partner? We were really worried about her. She continued to visit us and before long, she even stayed overnight. We showered her with love and attention and she stayed with us more and more. Finally, her owners said we could have her. We were ecstatic! We could have our best friend for our very own!
We were still very concerned about her roaming freely and crossing that road and now we were fully responsible for her. We had to do something to keep her safe! There were many options to consider. A pen? Too confining. Fenced in yard? Too expensive. We thought about our neighbors down the street that had a wireless fence. They said it worked beautifully for their rambunctious pup, Goldie. So we decided to purchase one for Taffy. It was much less expensive than a traditional fence and a cinch to hook up. We just turned on the transmitter, chose a setting on the collar and put it on Taffy. Voila! Instant fence! We set up the flags as a visual aid in the beginning and now she stops when she hears the warning beep. We even take it with us when we visit friends and family. We are so glad that we decided on a wireless fence. It keeps Taffy safe and gives us peace of mind and that is worth every penny!
